Azerbaijan Radical Opposition Party to Change its Political Course

Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 January / Trend corr. G.Jabiyev / The Open Society Party (OSP) of Azerbaijan led by Rasul Guliyev, who emigrated to the United States, will change the political course of the party.

"Radical political course does not create success for anyone," Yagub Abbasov, OSP Deputy Chairman, stated to trend on 15 January.

According to the Deputy Chairman, the party is ready to cooperate with the authorities on common issues.

The ex-speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Rasul Guliyev, was leader of the opposition Open Society Party from 2000 to February 2007. Guliyev was chairman of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA). Guliyev's supporters left DPA, held their own congress and founded the Open Society Party.

Abbasov said that the OSP leader submitted a proposal on reconciliation for a democratic future of Azerbaijan. The party is planning to introduce a constructive political course.
