Azerbaijani Opposition Party Applies to Foreign Political Parties

Azerbaijan, Baku, 23 May / Trend corr J. Babayeva/ The Opposition Liberal Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (LDPA) will invite representatives of foreign political parties, with which it is cooperating to watchdog presidential elections in the country. LDPA reported to Trend on 22 May that the decision had been made at the meeting of the LDPA administration.

Azerbaijan will hold presidential elections on 15 October.

The chairman of the Musavat party Isa Gambar, chairman of Azerbaijan Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloglu, chairman of the Greens Party Mais Gulaliyev and chairman of the public forum For Azerbaijan Eldar Namazov have decided to participate in the presidential elections. Several days ago, political scientist Eldar Namazov stated that he would run for presidency independently. At its meeting, to take place in near future, Governing New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) will nominate country's current President Ilam Aliyev.

LDPA Chairman Fuad Aliyev has also nominated himself for this honorary post.

LDPA plans to invite watchdogs from Turkey, Pakistan, Russia, Belgium, Serbia, Estonia, Indonesia, Belarus and Japan.

"The key purpose of inviting foreign parties' representatives to watchdog the presidential elections is to enable foreign politicians to get acquainted with the election process and to provide democracy and transparency to the elections," LDPA reported.

LDPA was established in 1999.
