Azerbaijan, Baku, 24 July/ Trend , corr U. Sadigova, R. Hafizoglu/ The US and the official Baghdad postpone the signing of security agreement for fear of undermining relative stability in Iraq.

"The reason of the fact that the bilateral security agreement between Iraq and US has not been concluded yet is the protest of the Iraqi nation to this document," Fevzi Akramoglu, the Iraqi MP said to Trend .

Washington, by not citing any reasons, announced that the signing of bilateral agreement had been postponed until the end of this month. According to security agreement, the service term of the US military men in Iraq can be prolonged up to the end of 2016, Al-Jazeera TV channel reported on 23 July.

The expert of Durham University of England on the Near East and Arab countries Christopher Davidson believes that the key reason for delaying signing of the agreement is the upcoming presidential elections in US.

"Washington is interested in delaying signing of this agreement because of some contradictions in both Iraq and US," Davidson said by telephone from London.

According to expert, the signing of agreement can escalate the situation in Iraq which contradicts US interests.

The Iraqi government will not sign this agreement in attempt to maintain internal stability, Akramoglu said. The signing of agreement can lead to undermining of relative stability achieved in Iraq and pave a way for the new national conflicts.

"The signing of agreement can put an end to freedom and independence of Iraq as a state," Akramoglu said by telephone from Baghdad.

According to expert, the security deal to be signed between Washington and Baghdad is not of any significance for the Iraqis. It would serve interests of the forces who came to power with the help of occupiers, he said.

Different mass media reports place the total number of dead and missing since the beginning of war in Iraq at 350,000 and some - at 4 million.

"US pursues its own interests in signing of this agreement. So, Washington wants to make its presence in Iraq official," Akramoglu said.
