UNICEF Appoints New Head of Baku Office

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 November/ Trend , corr N. Abdullayeva/ Mr. Mohamed Bendriss Alami has been appointed new Representative for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Azerbaijan, Baku office of the organization said to Trend .

Alami is the interim UNICEF Representative to Azerbaijan and he takes over from Ms. Hanaa Singer.

Prior to this appointment, Mr.Alami has served as UNICEF Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa.

After 15 years of work as Senior Civil Servant in the Moroccan Administration, Mr. Alami joined UNICEF Morocco in Rabat as National Officer managing the Water and Environmental Sanitation Programme (WES) in 1985. He was appointed the head of the WES programme in Cameroon as International Professional in 1988 and was designated as Assistant Representative in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea in 1994. In 1998 he was nominated Senior Programme Officer, the head of Field Operations in Khartoum, Sudan.

Azerbaijan has been member of UNICEF since July 1992 and closely cooperates with the organization in education, culture and health care.

Mohamed Bendriss Alami, 63, is a citizen of the Kingdom of Morocco
