Georgia, Polish Presidents Confirm Shooting by Russian Forces in Akhalgori

Georgia, Tbilisi, 23 November / corr Trend N.Kirtskhalia / The Presidents of Georgia and Poland confirmed the fact of shooting by Russian forces in Akhalgori.

"On the way to this village, I proposed to turn to the post, from where the shooting started. I would not permit myself to expose Polish leader's life to danger, I did not expect that Russians can launch fire. There is an obvios aggression against Georgia and there are occupants in the center of  Georgia, which cannot stay there any more," Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said in a joint breefing with the Polish president Lech Kaczynski.

Kaczynski said the incident is proof that the EU-brokered peace agreement between Russia and Georgia is not observed.

"I want to address to our friends in the EU and the United States and to appeal to them to do all necessary on this issue," he said.

Kaczynski stressed that the Georgian problem can be strained because of financial crisis.

He said that there were many problems which could postpone the visit in Georgia, but today's incident showed that visit "was right decision".
