Doors of CIS are always open for Georgia: executive secretary

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 18 / Trend , N.Abdullayeva/ Doors of the CIS are always open for Georgia, Sergey Lebedev, the chairman of the Executive Committee - executive secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

"Georgia stated that despite its quit, the country intends to continue its participation in all contracts and agreements, signed within the framework of the CIS, Lebedev said to journalists in Minsk, the CIS Executive Committee reported on Dec. 18. If Georgia wants to join the CIS, doors will be always open for it."

The CIS Executive Committee received a note from the Georgian Foreign Ministry on withdrawal from the CIS on Aug. 18 in 2008. Official Tbilisi made this decision after conflict with Russia. Armed conflict aroused in Aug. 2008.

In the early morning of Aug. 8, large-scale military actions commenced in the unrecognized republic of South Ossetia. Georgian troops entered Tskhinvali. Later Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and forced back the Georgian servicemen. Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.

Quit from the CIS formally takes place in a year after application of the state.

Juridical membership of Georgia in the CIS will continue by Aug. of 2009, Lebedev said.
