Nato interested in Manas air base

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 4 / Trend , E.Ostapenko/ Use of Manas air base is connected with operation in Afghanistan. NATO, as an organization is interested in good working logistic arrangements, Nato press officer told Trend on Feb. 4.
U.S. established an air base on the territory of the Manas international airport in Kyrgyzstan's capital city Bishkek in December 2001 in line with the UN mandate to support the anti-terrorist Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) carried out by coalition forces in Afghanistan
Over 1,000 U.S. military force and airliners are deployed in the Manas base.
Yesterday, Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiye said at a news conference in Moscow that the Manas air base would be shut down.
"Nato Special Representative for South Caucasus Robert Simmons said during his visit to Kyrgyzstan several days ago that the organization would like to see the continuation of this agreement. But it does not mean, that we have a say or we have a role to play in specific negotiations or discussions about the future of this arrangement," Nato press officer said.
This base is used by the U.S. on the basis of a bilateral agreement. So, Nato cannot make any statement, press officer said.
