Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 27 / Trend , A.Huseynbala/

Azerbaijani opposition referendum campaigning group will hold the first action on March 1.

"The Baku Administration has allocated us a place in the Tabriz cinema to meet with voters," Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Deputy Chairman Hasan Karimov told Trend on Feb. 27.

On Feb. 18, referendum agitation groups launched campaigning in Azerbaijan.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) decided to allot the referendum groups 90 minutes of airtime on both the Public Television and Public Radio stations. Airtime will be provided on the television from 18:15 and on the radio from 20:15. The groups will receive four blocks of free airtime during the campaign.

According to the referendum schedule, the agitation campaigns should be completed at midnight on Mar. 16.

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on Mar. 18 to amend the Constitution. Agitation groups on referendum were launched on Feb. 18.

The CEC registered the New Azerbaijan, Shahar, Tereggi, Huquq Va Demokratiya, Vatandash Jamiyyati, For Long-Term Development, Zaka, Movement For Karabakh and Republic and the Republicans groups. The Abad Kand, Azad Soz, Azerbaijan People's Republic and Milli Istiglal groups failed to pass registration.

The Azerbaijani Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002.

According to Karimov, the action planned for March has been postponed as the Baku Administration allocated the Bibiheybat area for the action. "The agitation group considers appropriate to meet that day with voters in a closed room," he said.

The Movement for Garabag and Republic was established by the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Citizen and Development Party, Liberal Party, Musavat, Umid, Azerbaijan Democratic Party and other public organizations.

Political and social structures represented in the Movement for Garabag submitted a notification to the Baku Administration asking for a place to hold a protest demonstration on Feb. 22. The letter requested for conditions to hold a rally in one of eight areas - the Azneft Square, located 200 meters from the Presidential Office, an area nearby the Teletheatre, located 200 meters from the Cabinet of Ministers, an area in front of the Nariman Narimanov cinema, an area in front of the Meshadi Azizbayov monument, the Huseyn Javid Square, the Samad Vurgun Park, the Fuzuli Square, or near the Jafar Jabbarli Monument.
