All-Georgia Patriarch Ilia II discussed the current situation in Georgia with invited diplomats in patriarchy. The meeting was held upon the patriarch's initiative.
"Georgia is experiencing a transitional period. There are problems that are not resolved - it is the territorial integrity, but we live in hope. I hope that all will be settled and the country's territorial integrity will be restored," the patriarch said at the meeting.
The patriarch stressed that a "new problem" occurred on this backdrop. This problem is reflected in the tensions between the authorities and opposition. "There are wise people both in the government and the opposition, and I think that they will find a common language," the patriarch said.
Ambassadors also expressed their concern about the situation. U.S. Ambassador John Tefft directly stated that the overlapping lines in the country are unacceptable. He expressed the ambassadors' opinion that all controversies should be smoothed by means of dialogue, rather than illegal acts.
