U.S President Barack Obama has sent a letter to his Turkmen counterpart Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of independence.

"We appreciate our good relations with the Turkmen people and hope for the further expansion of cooperation between our countries," the letter said.

"It is honor for me to express you and the Turkmen people best greetings and wish on behalf of the American people on the occasion of Turkmenistan's independence," the letter said.

In September, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with Berdimuhammedov in New York and demonstrated support for Ashgabat's initiatives to export the Turkmen energy resources to the world markets, including Europe.

Moreover, it was stated that the American business can help by its technology in the development of gas fields.

Washington is interested in Turkmenistan due to activation of the Nabucco gas pipeline project in Europe, where Azerbaijan was declared as the initial vendor.
