First Georgian military contingent on way to Afghanistan

The first Georgian military contingent will head to Afghanistan today, the Georgian Defense Ministry reported.

Military servicemen from the Second Infantry Brigade's Twenty-Third Battalion of the Georgian Ground Forces will launch a peacekeeping mission with the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) and a French contingent.

The ceremony will be attended by high-ranking ministry and military representatives.

The company's departure ceremony will be held at the Vaziani Military Base Nov. 16.

In early 2010, another Georgian battalion will leave for Afghanistan.
