The number of corruption-related crimes increased in Azerbaijan.

"Since January 98 criminal cases against 156 individuals have been investigated and sent to courts," Prosecutor General's Office Anti-Corruption Commission head Kamran Aliyev told journalists today.

Seventy cases of corruption were reviewed and forwarded to courts last year.

Criminal cases involved both state officials and private sector employees.

"Most cases are connected with the abuse of power, corruption and influence-peddling," Aliyev said. "Such cases in particular involve senior officials from the State Social Protection Fund, and educational and municipal sectors."

Thirty-six criminal cases are under investigation.
