Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko visited Baku Slavic University

President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko visited Friday the Baku Slavic University where he was awarded a Diploma of honorary doctor, AzerTAj state news agency reported.

Here, the Belarusian President was warmly welcomed by the University`s students and teaching staff.

Rector of the University Kamal Abdullayev welcomed the President on behalf of the students and teaching staff.

He said the University`s Scientific Council decided to award President Alexander Lukashenko the Diploma of Honorary Doctor for his contribution to developing relationship between Belarus and Azerbaijan, strengthening friendship between "the two peoples" and deepening bilateral scientific, education and cultural cooperation.

The rector noted a Center of Belarus Language and Culture had been established at the University. He also thanked Belarus` ambassador to Azerbaijan and Belarusian State Pedagogical University for the contributions they made to the opening of the Center.

Then, Kamal Abdullayev presented the University`s Diploma of Honorary Doctor to the Belarus` President.

Addressing the event, President Alexander Lukashenko thanked for the Award.

Touching upon relationship between Azerbaijan and Belarus, the President said the two countries had close friendly ties.

President Lukashenko said national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev always supported the people of Belarus, adding "that is why his memory is always honored in his country with great respect".

The Belarusian leader underlined President Ilham Aliyev successfully continues the national leader`s policy.

The Belarus President also noted during the current trip he saw rapid development process in Azerbaijan since he visited the country three years ago. He wished the Azerbaijani people development and welfare.

Then, the President and his accompanying delegation attended the inauguration of the Center of Belarus Language and Culture.

The President signed the Center`s Guest book.

He also donated to the Center books about the Republic of Belarus.
