From January 1, 2011 the Lithuanian diplomatic representation will serve as the NATO contact embassy in Georgia for two years. This decision was made by member-countries of the alliance.
The Embassy of Lithuania in Georgia told Trend that the NATO countries can propose an office to serve as a contact embassy. The decision will be reviewed every two years.
Now, two representative offices of Lithuania operate in Belarus since 2004, and Moldova since 2009.
While performing functions, the contact embassies first try to present the activity of the North Atlantic Alliance, its direction and priorities in the countries.
Various conferences, debates, forums, lectures allow to fully familiarize the population with the activity of NATO.
