Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies in the first half of 2010 continued to preserve previously achieved positive level in the sphere of public order and security, Interior Minister Ramil Usubov while speaking at a board on the results of the six months.

He said during this period the country's law enforcement agencies have taken steps to prevent crimes and other offenses, their disclosure, restoration of the rights of sufferers, as well as ensuring the rights and security of citizens.

Deputy Interior Minister, Lieutenant-General Vilayat Eyvazov addressed with report at the event.

"Some 11,375 crimes were recorded in Azerbaijan within the six months of this year, 96 percent, that is 10,920 of which are illegal actions. Their investigation was conducted by internal bodies and public prosecution bodies within the authority established by law. Deputy Minister said compared with the reporting period of 2009 blackmail reduced by 33.3 percent, robbery by 26.3 percent, brigandage by 14.8 percent, infliction of bodily harm by 2.3 percent, rape by 2.6 percent," he said.

"No fact of kidnapping was recorded during the reporting period. 87.3 percent of the crimes were solved up 1.3 percent. The number of the unsolved crimes decreased by 164 facts, that is by 11.2 precent," he said. Percentage of serious and very serious criminal cases solved, including premeditated murder, has increased from 84.7 to 94.1 percent, on deliberately causing bodily harm - from 81.8 to 87.4 percent, robbery cases - from 69.1 to 75.5 percent, theft - from 54.2 to 62 percent, burglary - from 47.5 to 63 percent. Crimes of banditry and extortion with the use of blackmail are fully disclosed," Eyvazov said.

Vilayat Eyvazov said that 188 grave crimes remained unsolved from the previous years were solved jointly with the public prosecution bodies. In addition, 91 crimes, including six cases of deliberate murder and one case of attempted murder, three cases of intentional infliction of bodily harm, six cases of robbery, four cases of extortion and theft, 61 cases of theft of vehicles were disclosed close in the tracks, " he said.
