CEC chairman: Over 200 candidates registered in parliamentary elections

Over 1,322 candidates, ready to compete for MP mandate in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, appealed to the district election commissions. Over 1,266 candidates got petitions from the CEC. Roughly 399 have already filled them out and submitted to the CEC, Mazahir Panahov, the CEC chairman, said at a CEC meeting.

Over 1,322 candidates, ready to compete for MP mandate in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan, appealed to the district election commissions. Over 1,266 candidates got petitions from the CEC. Roughly 399 have already filled them out and submitted to the CEC, Mazahir Panahov, the CEC chairman, said at a CEC meeting.

"Over 210 people were registered as candidates," Panahov.

Parliamentary elections are scheduled for Nov. 7. Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 electoral constituencies.

CEC registered 590 local observers to monitor the elections.

Some changes were made in the staff of constituencies at the CEC meeting. The appeals to the CEC in connection with the parliamentary elections were considered.
