Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 5 / Trend M. Aliyev /

The first group of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries' (TurkPA) observation mission arrived in Azerbaijan today to monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections, TurkPA Chairman Ramil Hasanov told Trend.

"Three Kazakh MPs are already in Baku," he said. "Additionally, five representatives of the Turkish parliament will also arrive today."

Hasanov stressed that the TurkPA observers are expected to meet with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

During the visit, the mission will study the conditions created for candidates, monitor meetings with voters, observe the ban on pre-election propaganda, and monitor the elections in a number of constituencies.

TurkPA's observation mission will publish a preliminary report on the elections on Nov. 8.

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for Nov. 7. Previous elections were held in November 2005. The elections are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.

TurkPA was established in 2009 in Baku. The main goal of the assembly is to strengthen the relations between Turkic-speaking countries and to support Turkic-speaking countries in international organizations, as well as to help them share their experiences in legislative processes.

The assembly was established to preserve the languages, culture and history of Turkic-speaking countries and to strengthen political, economic and cultural ties between member countries.
