Purpose of such people as Turgut Er is an attempt to stain the history of Azerbaijan, professor at Baku State University, corresponding member of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, MP Nizami Jafarov told Trend.
"Statements by people like Turgut Er can not harm the Azerbaijani-Turkish relations. Simply he has an uncertain relationship to the modern history of Azerbaijan. How can we describe the beginning of 1990s as democracy in Azerbaijan? How can we describe as tyranny the period of nation-building and strengthening the national statehood? How can you downplay the role of Heydar Aliyev? All these are subjective attitude towards history and are purposeful action," said Jafarov.
Some excerpts from the book "From freedom to tyranny" by Turgut Er - the former Turkish diplomat who worked in Azerbaijan, were published in the Azadliq newspaper.
Jafarov said that such a stir of opposition in connection with the publication of this book in opposition newspapers is ridiculous.
"We need to criticize, condemn this event. There is a definite goal in this issue. It is to sully our history," said Jafarov.
According to him, despite people like Turgut Er, the story says differently.
"We have not forgotten early 1990s: destruction and self-will, a difficult situation. The fundamental role of Heydar Aliyev has identified the history. This role is not determined by the position or opinions of Turgut Er," Jafarov said.
