The annual activities of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking countries (TurkPA) found to be satisfactory.
"In 2010, the TurkPA was adopted in a number of international organizations as observer and member," TurkPA Secretary General Ramil Hasanov said at a news conference on the results of 2010.
TurkPA was admitted as observer to the International Union of Parliaments and its Secretary General joined the membership of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments.
"In the future, the TurkPA can turn into a structure that combines all the Turkic states and its member organizations will be able to make joint decisions in the judicial, legal and customs spheres," Hasanov said.
Hasanov did not exclude the admission to the parliaments of neighboring states to the TurkPA as guests, observers and friends.
"We have already received such requests, which will be discussed in the next year, and decisions will then be taken," Hasanov said.
He observed that the second plenary meeting of the TurkPA may be held in April. The date of the meeting will be negotiated with the Kazak Parliament.
The meeting is expected to be attended by the Turkmen parliamentary speaker.
"The meeting will establish three standing committees - Committee on Humanitarian and Social Affairs, Committee on Trade, Economic and Energy Affairs and the Committee on Foreign Relations and Inter-parliamentary cooperation," Hasanov said.
TurkPA was established in 2009 in Baku. The organization includes Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The Secretariat of the assembly is located in Baku. The main goal of the Assembly is to strengthen relations between the Turkic-speaking countries and support Turkic-speaking countries in international organizations, as well as to help them share their experiences in legislative processes.
