The embassy of Azerbaijan in Egypt, despite the unstable situation in this country, continues its work in a restricted mode to provide assistance to the citizens of Azerbaijan, for some reason still located in Egypt, said in the statement of MFA.
The total number of Azerbaijani people evacuated from Egypt reached 163.
On Thursday afternoon another 10 Azerbaijani citizens were evacuated from Egypt, Azerbaijani ambassador to Egypt, Shahin Abdullayev, told Trend.
All of them left for Istanbul. They will arrive in Baku with the assistance of AZAL representation in Turkey, the ambassador said.
Azerbaijan, among the first countries, evacuated its citizens from Egypt after the riots in this country.
Earlier, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev instructed the relevant bodies to urgently evacuate Azerbaijani citizens temporarily living and studying in Egypt due to the recent events in the country. Thus, 103 Azerbaijani citizens were evacuated by an AZAL special plane.
Then, another 65 Azerbaijani citizens were evacuated with the assistance of the Turkish Embassy in Egypt, as well as the Russian airline Transaero by different flights.
The Azerbaijani Embassy in Egypt through the Foreign Ministry asks the relatives of citizens who are currently in Egypt to contact them and ask them to urgently get in touch with the diplomatic mission via the "hotline" at 0020108112577.
Since Jan. 25, mass protests have rocked Egypt demanding a regime change. A total of 160 people have died and thousands have been injured.
