Uzbekistan , Tashkent , May 31 / Trend, D. Azizov /
The first political diplomat from the European External Action Service, Czech citizen Ondrej Simek, has assumed his duties in Uzbekistan as the Head Representative of the European Union, the Czech Embassy said.
Simek's role is to prepare all of the requirements for the delegation's work, including the residency selection and receiving necessary accreditations.
The decision to open the EU representation in Tashkent in order to coordinate cooperation with Uzbek partners more efficiently was made during the Uzbek President Islam Karimov's visit to Brussels in January 2011.
It is expected that the ceremonial opening of the EU representation in Tashkent will take place this year.
