Azerbaijan, Baku, June 13 /Trend/

The results of the parliamentary elections in Turkey were expectable, deputy executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), MP Mubariz Gurbanli said in an interview to the NAP website.

"All the forecasts gave grounds to say that the elections in Turkey will be won by Justice and Development Party (AKP). This choice should be regarded in the Turkish society as a step forward," he added.

Being ruling party, AKP gained great prestige in Turkish society. According to Gurbanli, Turkish society is open and democratic, political pluralism and democratic values have developed there.

"Opposition parties are quite strong in Turkey and are represented in the parliament with sufficient number. The point is that in Turkey there is a balance in social and political spheres. After this election, Turkey will begin political reforms. These reforms will also represent the interests of Turkish society," said the deputy executive secretary of NAP.

According to Gurbanli, during the governance of the AKP, progress was also achieved on the Kurdish problem. Today in the ranks of the AKP there are candidates of Kurdish origin, who won the right to be represented in the parliament, and it shows that the Kurds are also supporters of cooperation with the AKP.

The election of 74 women MPs is an important event for Turkey as a Muslim country, he said.

"We believe that these elections meet the interests of the Turkish society. We, as the NAP, closely cooperate with AKP and are satisfied with the victory of the party. AKP's victory would preserve the principle of continuity in Turkish foreign policy. Turkey and the AKP government consistently support Azerbaijan's fair position on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. We believe that it would be so in future as well," he added.
