Bidzina Ivanishvili is a Georgian citizen, the businessman's personal lawyer Eka Beselia said on Thursday.
"Ivanishvili is a Georgian citizen and this is confirmed by the following documents: Georgian President's order No. 484 dated June 10, 2004 on granting citizenship to Bidzina Ivanishvili, a Georgian citizen identity card, issued on March 7, 2006, a Georgian citizen's passport, issued on March 13, 2006; a Georgian passport, issued on June 29, 2011 and recorded in a single list of voters; Bidzina Ivanishvili received Georgian citizenship through naturalization in 2004," Beselia said.
She said according to the law on citizenship, officials are responsible for incompetence or illegality on citizenship issues. Bidzina Ivanishvili has not been provided with any legal document on the loss of citizenship so far.
"Thus, Bidzina Ivanishvili is a Georgian citizen, and government agencies' illegal actions or non-fulfillment of duties by relevant bodies authorities will make the authorities responsible," Beselia said.
Regarding the businessman's choice, the lawyer said that Ivanshvili made this decision on Oct.7, when he said that renounced the citizenship of Russia and France.
The Civil Registry Agency issued a statement yesterday that Bidzina Ivanishvili is no longer a Georgian citizen.
