Date of EU Special Representative’s Baku visit announced

European Union Special Representative (EUSR) for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Ambassador Philippe Lefort, will pay a visit to Azerbaijan on Oct.26-27 as a part of his regional tour, a diplomatic source told Trend.

European Union Special Representative (EUSR) for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, Ambassador, Philippe Lefort, will pay a visit to Azerbaijan on Oct.26-27 as a part of his regional tour, a diplomatic source told Trend.

This will be Lefort's second visit to Azerbaijan after his appointment to this position. Earlier, he visited Baku in September.

Mr Lefort replaced Pierre Morel who served as EUSR for the crisis in Georgia until 31 August 2011 and Peter Semneby who served as EUSR for the South Caucasus until 28 February 2011.

Philippe Lefort is a French diplomat of more than 20 years' experience. He has devoted large parts of his career to the Caucasus and Russia, among other things as French Ambassador in Georgia (2004-2007) and as Deputy Head of Mission at the French Embassy in Russia (2007-2010).

His mandate calculated for the period to 30 June 2012.

On Monday, Lefort has arrived in Tbilisi. During the visit to Georgia, Lefort will meet with the Georgian government's senior officials, the Georgian State Office told Trend on Monday.
The meetings in Tbilisi will discuss issues of stability and security within the EU relations with South Caucasus countries.

A wide range of issues regarding the occupied Georgian territories and situation there will also be discussed.
