Uzbekistan and the U.S have discussed expanding the relations between the Uzbek and U.S parliamentarians during the visit of the U.S. House of Representatives' delegation to Tashkent.
Uzbek Oliy Majlis (upper house of the Uzbek parliament) chairman Ilgizar Sabirov and a delegation of U.S. congressmen led by chairman of the subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia Dan Burton have discussed the legislative consolidation of positive trends in bilateral relations, the Uzbek National Information Agency (UzA ) reported today.
Burton said that the development of the cooperation with Uzbekistan is important for the U.S.
"We are pleased that during our visit, we had the opportunity to get acquainted with the Uzbek parliamentary system," Burton said after a meeting in the Senate. "The meetings held during the visit will undoubtedly serve to further development of bilateral relations."
The same day, the U.S. delegation has also held meetings in the Legislative Chamber of the Uzbek parliament and the Foreign Ministry.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the sides stressed during a meeting with the leadership of the Foreign Ministry that strengthening the cooperation in all spheres of the Uzbek-U.S agenda meets the interests of both countries.
Uzbek President Islam Karimov has received a delegation of U.S. congressmen this week.
According to the Uzbek side, a visit of a delegation of the U.S. Congress to Uzbekistan is confirmed by the dynamic and progressive strengthening of the Uzbek-U.S dialogue.
