Further statements of Morningstar added (first version posted at 21:24)
Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 28 /Trend, E.Mehdiyev /
Azerbaijan is a very important country for the United States, the newly appointed U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan, Richard Morningstar, told reporters Tuesday at the airport upon arrival in Baku.
"I'm looking forward to working with the government of Azerbaijan, getting to know the people of Azerbaijan and the country, dealing with important issues", he said.
"I'm very excited to be here and start this post in Baku. We will be working on critical issues such as regional stability, democracy, and making Azerbaijan very strong, very transparent and issues related to counter-terrorism. And of course, the energy will be one of the important issues as well", Morningstar added.
The U.S. Senate confirmed Morningstar's nomination for the post of ambassador to Azerbaijan on July 30.
The Senate Committee on international relations approved the decision of President Barack Obama to nominate Richard L. Morningstar to be the next ambassador to Baku in April.
U.S. President Barack Obama appointed a career diplomat, former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary Matthew Bryza as ambassador to Azerbaijan bypassing the Senate on Dec.29, 2010, which a few months blocked his nomination under pressure of pro-Armenian senators Barbara Boxer and Robert Menendez.
