Iran has officially appointed an ambassador to Azerbaijan.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad met in Tehran with new ambassadors appointed to a number of countries, including the new ambassador to Azerbaijan - Mohsen Pak Ayin, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

The President gave instructions to new heads of diplomatic missions in Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, and other countries, noting the need for the development of bilateral relations between Iran and these countries.

Mohsen Pak Ayin was born in 1954 in the province of Fars. He was a member of parliament in 1987-91. He was head of the Department of Foreign Ministry of Iran on Afghanistan prior to his appointment to Azerbaijan. He served as ambassador to Zambia, Iran, Uzbekistan and Thailand.

Ayin will replace Muhammadbaghir Bahrami, the diplomatic mission of whom ended this summer.
