U.S. believes in democracy in Turkey, U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Francis Ricciardone told reporters on Wednesday after several meetings with the leadership of the ruling Justice and Development Party, TRT Haber TV channel reported.
"The U.S believes that Turkey is developing democratic principles and is always ready to help Ankara in this issue," Ricciardone said.
He also said that Turkey is a safe country for foreign tourists and investors.
Protests have been continuing in Turkey for more than 20 days. According to the authorities, they are anti-government. Turkey's opposition parties accuse the police of using excessive force against protesters.
Earlier, Turkish Interior Minister said an investigation is underway in connection with the use of excessive force against protesters.
