Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 1 / Trend R. Hafizoglu /

While disseminating false information about events in Sudan, the Western media deliberately spoils the image of the country, Sudanese presidential assistant Nafie Ali Nafie told Trend today.

"The power belongs to the people, rather than any political party or force in Sudan," Nafie Ali Nafie said.

It was earlier reported that protest actions have been held in Sudan since September 23. The reason for people's discontent was the cancellation of fuel subsidies which has led to a sharp rise in prices. However, starting off from the economic issues, demonstrations soon acquired a political character.

According to the Sudanese authorities, around 700 people were detained for the past two weeks.

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir issued a decree granting amnesty to all women detained during the recent unrest in the country, SUNA Sudanese news agency reported earlier.
