Turkish ex-President Suleyman Demirel will testify over a military coup of 1997, the Turkish newspaper Milliyet reported on June 28.

Besides Demirel, some 103 more people, who served as state officials during a military coup of 1997, will also testify, according to the newspaper.

On September 25 Turkish ex-President Suleyman Demirel was charged with participation in a military coup that took place on February 28, 1997.

The charges against Demirel were brought through the Criminal Court of Erzurum province.

The coup in 1997 was the fourth in the history of the country, after the events of 1960, 1971 and 1980. It was called 'postmodern'. As a result of the coup, the ruling administration resigned and Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan retired.
