Electoral legislation of the Russian Federation corresponds to universally recognized international standards, First Vice-Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Parliament Ziyafet Asgarov said, Moscow-Baku agency reported.

Asgarov, who is also a coordinator of the international mission of observers of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS), made the remarks at a news conference on March 19 on the monitoring of the Russian presidential election.

Asgarov said the precise execution of the electoral legislation provided a basis for democratic presidential election in the Russian Federation.

"The Central Election Commission, the election commissions of the Russian regions, territorial precinct election commissions did a great work to prepare for voting in Russia and abroad. Participation of a significant number of presidential candidates in the election campaign ensured competition environment and opportunity for a choice. The election campaigning was not complicated," he said.
