By Elchin Mehdiyev - Trend:

Independent Azerbaijan will not allow Armenia to continue its aggressive policy, Chairman of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced People Rovshan Rzayev said at a hearing on the theme "Karabakh is Azerbaijan!" held in the Azerbaijani parliament, Trend reports on Oct. 15.

“Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s speech at the Valdai International Discussion Club gave us big strength and strengthened the spirit and faith of each of us,” Rzayev added.

The chairman stressed that President Aliyev’s statement must be exemplary for every patriot.

"Every Azerbaijani citizen in his daily life must be able to voice own position on ensuring Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity," Rzayev added.

The chairman added that President Aliyev delivered the speech on a platform where the attention of the whole world was riveted to him.

“By putting a solid exclamation mark on the point of the Armenians during the Valdai Forum, the Azerbaijani president once again declared to the whole world that Azerbaijan will ensure its territorial integrity, independent Azerbaijan will not allow Armenia to continue an aggressive policy and internally displaced people will return to their native lands,” Rzayev added.

The chairman reminded that more than one million refugees and internally displaced people live in Azerbaijan.

“The work being carried out by the president to improve the living conditions of refugees and internally displaced people is obvious,” he added.

In conclusion, the chairman said that the leading countries must assess President Aliyev’s decisive position, call on the opposite side to ensure peace.

"They must demonstrate a fair approach, otherwise the Azerbaijani armed forces may conduct an anti-terrorist operation and ensure the country’s territorial integrity."

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from Nagorno Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
