Azerbaijan reveals number of children delivered from earthquake-affected Türkiye

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 13. A total of 10 children (six boys and four girls) affected by the earthquake in Türkiye have been delivered to Azerbaijan, Head of the Health Organization Department of the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan Aynura Zeynalova told reporters, Trend reports.

According to Zeynalova, together with the children, 12 adults (six families in total) from among the citizens brought from Türkiye to Azerbaijan were taken to medical institutions on February 10.

"The youngest was born eight days ago, and the oldest is 14 years old. The persons admitted to the pediatric research institute were placed in the wards designated for them, complex laboratory and instrumental examinations have begun, which are already nearing completion," the official noted.

She added that upon completion of the checkups, the children, together with their parents, will be sent to an orphanage under the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Azerbaijan.

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit southeastern Türkiye on Feb. 6, 2023. The earthquake occurred at a depth of seven kilometers in the Pazarcik region of Kahramanmaras Province. The provinces of Hatay, Gaziantep, Kilis, Osmaniye, Malatya, Adiyaman, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana and Kahramanmaras were subjected to severe destruction.

The quake’s epicenter was located 26 km away from the city of Gaziantep with a population of about 1.06 million. Following the latest data, 29,605 people have been killed, and 80,278 have got injured in the quake.
