BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 19. The first consular consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and UAE have been held in Abu Dhabi, Trend reports.

The Azerbaijani delegation at the consultations was led by the Head of the Consular Department of the Foreign Ministry Emil Safarov, and the UAE delegation - by Assistant Deputy Secretary of the Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs Faisal Lutfi.

During the consular consultations, the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation in the consular sphere with an important partner country for Azerbaijan - UAE, including the signing of new bilateral documents in this area and the possibility of digitizing consular services, were considered.

Besides, on the basis of the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on exemption from entry visas for persons holding general civil, diplomatic and special/service passports", a detailed exchange of views took place on the application of a visa-free regime from July 8 this year in relation to citizens of both countries who have general civil passports.

The parties, exchanging experience on the latest innovations implemented in the consular sector, also stressed the importance of strengthening ties between the two countries in the field of migration, justice and other areas.

An agreement was reached between the parties to hold the next meeting of consular consultations in 2024 in Baku.

The visa-free regime between Azerbaijan and the UAE was introduced on July 8, 2023. The period of visa-free residence in both countries is 90 days.
