SUSHA, Azerbaijan, July 21. On July 21, the second day of the Second Shusha Global Media Forum on the topic “Exposing Narratives: Combating Disinformation” continues with panel discussions, Trend reports.
On the second day of the forum, panel discussions were held on the topic “Impact Assessment: Determining the Scope of Disinformation.”
The discussions were attended by the presenter and correspondent of TRT World Jaffar Hasnain, First Deputy General Director of the TASS news agency, Professor Mikhail Gusman, Manager of Media Initiatives at the Al-Jazeera Media Institute Montaser Marai, Academic and Scientific Director of the CeSPI Observation Center (Center for International Policy Research) on Türkiye Valeria Giannotta, founder of the MTP (Most Travelers) club Charles Veley.
During the discussions, Gusman said that the information war sometimes does not end. He noted that professionals must differentiate between information. “Sometimes they use disinformation for commercial purposes, sometimes unknowingly, etc. Disinformation is the intentional use of false information. Sometimes disinformation is used by certain groups against a specific country. Disinformation is a type of special information weapon, and it is quite a powerful weapon, especially in the age of development of information technology. People are trying more to get information in a concise form from their phone. Society is not ready for these huge waves. I don't consider bloggers to be journalists. Journalism is a profession and you have a responsibility to it. Information should be approached professionally," he added.
Marai noted that today there is a lot of misinformation among ordinary people.
"Social media is becoming a place for misinformation to spread. You need to check the source of information. During the day, so many videos are posted on social networks that it makes your head spin. Imagine that we are in a bubble, in algorithms and a lot of information, and social networks, digital media are driving us more and more into the bubble. We have to decide whether we will stay in these bubbles or not," he added.
Other speakers also spoke about the negative consequences of disinformation and the importance of combating it.
