BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 17. The II Baku Security Forum themed "Modern security challenges of global transport networks", organized by the Azerbaijani State Security Service, has brought together representatives from the intelligence services of around 50 countries, a source in the State Security Service told Trend.
According to the source, the forum addressed an appeal from President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to its participants, and a video covering the conference topic.
Head of Azerbaijan's State Security Service, Colonel-General Ali Naghiyev welcomed the guests and emphasized the significance of the Baku Security Forum, held in May 2023 and reorganized this year, in terms of expanding information exchange and other areas of cooperation between partner organizations.
Naghiyev also highlighted the importance of coordinated action by intelligence services in combating international terrorism and addressing threats to the security system, stressing that the event serves as an important platform for security structures to discuss issues of common interest.
He noted that the timing of this forum, held ahead of COP29, was not coincidental, and explained that terrorist acts targeting transport lines used for energy resource transportation could lead to global economic and environmental disasters, and stressed the need to further strengthen joint efforts and increase overall effectiveness.
According to the official, the head of state consistently provides political support for organizing events in Azerbaijan on globally significant issues.
Besides, Naghiyev expressed confidence that this conference would contribute to developing joint approaches and improving strategies to combat the risks facing the security of global transport corridors.
The event continued with speeches from the heads of foreign intelligence delegations on the topic, and it was concluded by noting that the participating countries unanimously supported President Ilham Aliyev's initiative to create a Secretariat of the Baku Security Forum, which will function permanently in Baku.
