BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 11. Relations with Azerbaijan are developing upwards, member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željka Cvijanović, who arrived on a visit to Azerbaijan to participate in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), said in her official social account, Trend reports.
"We highly appreciate the good cooperation with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as well as his friendly attitude towards all the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina and both structures.
Our relationship with Azerbaijan is on the rise, becoming better and more meaningful. This is evidenced by my fourth visit to Baku in less than two years, as well as the official visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Bosnia and Herzegovina last year at my invitation. We thank you for the support you have provided so far and look forward to the realization of the future projects we have discussed," noted Cvijanović.
On November 11, Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, met with Denis Bećirović, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Željka Cvijanović.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened today in Baku and will continue until November 22. The event is the largest organized by Azerbaijan to date, and for the first time, it is being held in the region of Azerbaijan.
Within COP29, the highest level event - the summit of world leaders on climate action - will be held on November 12–13.
The main expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.
In addition to being a top priority that sets the stage for action, the creation of climate finance will also contribute to meeting the 1.5°C commitment by bringing everyone together.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP (Conference of Parties) stands for “Conference of Parties” and is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.
A total of 198 countries are parties to the Convention. Unless the parties decide otherwise, COP is held annually. The first COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is based in Bonn.
