CE and Azerbaijan will continue modifying electoral practice after re-run elections- CE delegation head

Council of Europe and Azerbaijan will continue joint work in modifying electoral practice after the re-run elections on May 13, head of the PACE monitoring group, Dutch MP, Leo Platvoet told at his press-conference in Baku on April 28, Trend reports.

We expect that after the May elections credibility of electoral processes in the country will be fully restored, Platvoet said, adding that the local government still has enough time to change the electoral laws.

Head of the observational mission reminded about 5 recommendations he gave during the current talks. They include; modification of the

electoral codex, requesting the Venetian commission for technical aid in electoral practices, change of the electoral commission` s composition and modernizing the law on freedom of gatherings.

The recent elections will be monitored by a group of 20 PACE observers, he said, assuring that now it is too prematurely to draw any conclusions.

We should wait for the May 13 and only then we can say whether the re-run elections were in accordance with the CE standards, he concluded.
