Registration of inactive parties should be liquidated Azeri PM

The emptiness in the law On political parties should be filled by taking into consideration the realities, PM Siyavush Novruzov, deputy executive secretary of New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), told Trend, expressing his attitude towards the development of the bill On political parties.

He noted that in 2001 the ruling party presented Milli Majlis [Azerbaijan Parliament] a project on this document. Besides, he ruled out that this question has been repeatedly discussed in the parliament, with the participation of the representatives of OSCE office for democratic institutions and human rights. However, in relation with the elections and other processes, these discussions were temporarily stopped. Probably, the discussion of these bills will be again included in the agenda at the fall session of Milli Majlis, Novruzov told.

In Novruzovs opinion, after the adoption of the law On political parties, Constitution and Electoral Code in 1992, the document should be considered again. Firs, the document should reflect the registration process of the political parties, and second, legal regulation of the activities of the political parties. If they dont participate in the elections and other processes, their registration should be liquidated. Besides, the financing of the parties should be defined in the document, Novruzov emphasized.
