Deterioration of Russian-Georgian relations is not linked with withdrawal of Russian military bases from Georgia

Deterioration of Russian-Georgian relations is not linked with the withdrawal of Russian military bases from Georgia, politician Azer Mursaliyev, the deputy editor-in-chief of Russian newspaper Kommersant, told Trend.

He considers that this issue is related to various questions including dissatisfaction of Russia with insistent position of Georgia to become a member of NATO.

The Russian military forces still consider NATO a potential hostile block, and NATOs emerging on the southern borders of Russia causes irritation, concern and desire to prevent it somehow, Mursaliyev added.

According to Mursaliyev, the key disputable moment is the Russian Gudaut base in Abkhazia, which Georgia cannot control and desires to get a permit to this territory and hold monitoring.

Speaking about the situation complicated after the operation of Georgian government in Kodor gorge, Mursaliyev noted that one of peaks of the dangerous development of the situation - - the moment of conducting operation, has already passed.

According to Mursaliyev, at present, intimidation time is continuing, while Abkhazian side threatens, by conducting military operations due to the volunteer from North Caucasus, etc.

But today it is clear that in Russia, no volunteers, no Confederation of Caucasian peoples can independently participate in this issue. If volunteers go there in certain number, it is clear that this operation has been authored and organized by Moscow, Mursaliyev stressed.
