The State Customs Committee has completed preparatory works for a new reading of the Customs Code of the Country. Aydin Aliyev, the Chairman of the State Customs Committee, has told Trend that it should be edited only a little, since it was written in international legislative language. It is currently being brought into accordance with national legislative language, and then it will be submitted to the Government. The main part of the document has already been prepared noted Mr. Aliyev.

Improving the legislative base in accordance with international standards was stipulated by a UNDP and EU project on improving the customs service. The preparation for a new reading of the Customs Code was one of the tasks needed to ensure the continuing growth of the customs system in Azerbaijan.

An expert has been involved with these aims in mind. He earlier worked in Russia and Kazakhstan; therefore he is already acquainted with the region. New information technology was introduced to the Code. Particular attention is paid to those articles which stipulate the capabilities and activity of the customs employee (officer).
