14 Employees of Azerbaijan’s Interior Bodies are Made Answerable

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend K.Zarbaliyeva / The Interior Minister of Azerbaijan, Ramil Usubov, said at a meeting with the Chairman of the Anti-Torture Committee, Elchin Behbudov, that between the period of January to March 2007, 14 employees of the interior bodies of Azerbaijan have been made answerable. Of them, six have been dismissed from interior bodies. On 2 April Behbudov stated that his meeting with the Interior Minister focused on the details of torture in police departments.

The Minister said that last year 139 employees of interior bodies were punished due to human rights violations. Of them, 35 have been dismissed from the interior bodies. In addition, the Minister underlined that AZN 32.000 has been allocated from the State budget for the repair isolation cellsfortemporary detention.

According to Usubov, each complaint received by the Committee is confirmed and relevant measures are taken.
