Azerbaijan, Baku / corr. Trend I.Alizade / The Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), MP Ali Ahmadov, said at the meeting of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) on 5 June that the request by several journalists to receive political asylum from foreign countries is an act.
Ahmadov said that a number of media sources are portraying a negative opinion regarding Azerbaijan in reports with international organizations. He stressed several newspapers in Azerbaijan are involved in moral terror against the public. "Amendments to the Law on Media need to be made at the spring session of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) to prevent such cases. Proposing amendments to the Law on Media, I do not mean limiting freedom of speech. The media in Azerbaijan should function on the basis of the pre-eminence of the law," Ahmadov said.
