More Testimony Provided at Continuing Hearings of Azerbaijani Former Economic Development Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. E.Javadova / The criminal trial involving Azerbaijan's former Minister of Economic Development, Farhad Aliyev, his brother Rafik Aliyev, former President of the Azpetrol Group of Companies, and seventeen other people, continues at the Court of Heinous Crimes presided over by Judge Tofik Pashayev.

Rafik Abbasov, the Deputy Director of the Azertrans Limited Company, charged with contraband, was questioned during the first part of the hearing. Abbasov confirmed his participation in smuggling 20,000t of oil to his Georgian Euro-Asia company.

Agabeck Huseinov was also questioned as a defendant. Huseinov confirmed that he worked as a cable specialist in various countries. After arriving to Azerbaijan Huseinov met with Aydin Karimov, the father-in-law of the former Minister.

Karimov proposed selling the Mingachevir-based Azercable factory to him, in order to share future benefits. Several Mingachevir-based factories were sold to Huseinov below market cost, through illegal documents.
