Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr I. Alizadeh / The Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) will resolve the problem of its headquarters location by Autumn, the Deputy Chairman of the party, Fuad Mustafayev, reported on 9 August.
He urged that the State solve the problem in accordance with the Law on Political Parties. " Baku entrepreneurs refuse to rent premises to the APFP, therefore the problem of finding the location has not been settled yet," he added.
According to Mustafayev, ways of solving the matter are presently being discussed. "With regards to the normal functioning of the Party, we will partially handle the matter of finding headquarters by autumn. The Party has many members, so spacious premises are required. As yet, we have not found such a place," Mustafayev noted.
He added that despite the problem with the location for its headquarters, the APFP still continues with its activities and meetings are still being held. "The APFP are meeting in the apartment of their members. However, the lack of central headquarters is preventing them to operate on a large-scale," Mustafayev reported.
From 1993 the APFP was located on 33 Khagani Street, Baku in the editorial office of the Azadlyg newspaper. In November 2006 Baku City Sabail District Court evicted the Party from its premises on the basis of a lawsuit initiated by the State Committee on State Property Management.
The opposition APFP is a member and a co-founder of the Azadlyg political bloc. Azerbaijan's ex-president Abulfaz Elchibey who founded the Party chaired it until 2000. From 2000 the former secretary of the State, former MP Ali Karimli has been chairing the APFP.
