Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Aghayeva / Beginning from the new academic year, graduates in Azerbaijan who have been granted free education are expected to work in employment for a total of five years, Azerbaijan Education Minister, Misir Mardanov reported at a press conference on 14 September.
"This system was used during the USSR period. Its restoration in Azerbaijan's education system will resolve the problem regarding lack of teachers in remote Azerbaijani villages," the Minister said.
The monitoring held by the Education Ministry 3 years ago revealed that general schools in remote regions were in need of 7,000 teachers. During the 3 years, within the framework of the State program on 'Provision of General Schools with Staff', the Ministry succeeded in reducing the numbers to 3,500. The State program envisaged a solution to social problems of the teachers working in remote village schools, social benefits and an increase in salaries.
According to the Minister, the new graduate assignment system will also involve graduates who have received a scholarship and studied abroad at the expense of that government. The State will therefore, compensate its expenditure for students studying in the world's most prestigious universities.
