Another Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Fined in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. К.Zarbaliyeva / Fikrat Faramazoglu, the editor-in-chief of the Azerbaijani 24 Hours newspaper was fined for AZN 330 due to the lawsuit by the Azerbaijani singer Nazpari Dostaliyeva after the verdict of the Narimanov District of Baku City on 2 October.

Dostaliyeva brought an action against the editor-in-chief and journalist of the newspaper due to the articles published on 26 and 28 March. The articles reported the arrest of Nazpari's son.

The singer demanded the editor-in-chief to be arrested due to the contravening Article 147 (slaughter) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

In 2006 the Nasimi District Court sentenced Faramazoglu for two conditioned years due to the lawsuit brought by the MP David Gurbanov.

Meanwhile there are seven journalists imprisoned. An appeal is submitted to the President in order to pardon the journalists.
