Azerbaijani Ex-Minister has no serious health problems – Health Department Chief

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 February / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva / Farhad Aliyev, the ex-Social Development Minister of Azerbaijan, does not have any serious health problems, Rafael Mehdiyev, the chief of Central Health Department at Azerbaijani Justice Ministry, stated.

On 5 February Aliyev was transferred to the medical centre of Penitentiary Service of National Security Ministry due to the deterioration of his health.

Mehdiyev said that Ex-Minister and his lawyers appealed to hold additional examinations. Mehdiyev denied that information that the ex-Minister suffered in fact and his state was severe. "Aliyev was examined and no infarct was revealed," Mehdiyev stated.

Through his lawyer's appeal, other specialists will be invited to examine the ex-Minister.

On 2 February, the ex-Minister went on a hunger strike demanding that he have a full examination in private or with other doctors, in the presence of his lawyer.

Aliyev, who is sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, was arrested on October 2005 on charges of planning to hold a coup and was later accused of committing crimes related to the economy of the country
