Calling Up Postgraduate and Magistracy students to Military Service to be Re-considered
Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 April /corr. Trend I.Alizade / The Parliament of Azerbaijan will again consider the issue of military calling up for the postgraduate and magistracy students.
"Calling up the postgraduate and magistracy students to the military service present obstacles for the development of education. Currently, a document has been prepared on military calling up of the postgraduate and magistracy students," the member of Azerbaijan Parliament's Permanent Commission on Science and Education, Rector of Baku State University Abel Maharramov reported to Trend .
At the beginning of 2007, the Parliament of Azerbaijan made changes in the Law on Bases of Military Service. According to the changes, the military service privileges for the postgraduate and magistracy students were liquidated.
Nearly 500 people enter postgraduate education every year. About 250 of them are young people. "Most of the postgraduate and magistracy students, who are called up to the military service, do not return to science. The military calling up breaks the principles of intensity in the science," the MP added.
