Trainings to be Organized in Baku to Improve Professional Level of Journalists: Council of Europe’s Envoy
France, Strasburg, 26 June /corr. Trend A.Maherremli / Within prepared action plan, we will pay special attention to the activities contributing to the elections in Azerbaijan. For this purpose, six trainings will be held to improve professional level of journalists in Baku in July-August, the Council of Europe's representative for media in Azerbaijan, Franchesca Klopfer, told Trend . According to her, a conference 'Role of media in democracy' will take place in Baku on 16 July. "Additionally, on the eve of the pre-election campaign, we will hold independent monitoring of media," she added.
Klopfer said that during visit to Baku on 19-22 February, a decision was made to regulate speech time on ether, press and radio, as well as organize actions directed against slander.
The Council of Europe's mission for press visited Baku on 19-22 February. The visit was aimed at assessing needs in press, planning programs, collecting relevant information on co-operation with Azerbaijan in the sphere of press.
Within Council of Europe's 2008-2009 program of European democracy and human rights for South Caucasus and Moldova, 10-15 actions have been assigned to be implemented by Azerbaijan with regards to press.
